The Opinel #8 is one of my favorite affordable pocketknives. If you don't know Opinels, they are wonderfully simple, old-school knives, very light-weight, tough-enough and well-made. The #7 is good size for folks who like small knives (my wife used hers daily when we worked on a farm a few years ago). The #9 or #10 are good sizes for folks with bigger hands, or who need a longer knife. I've XL hands, and I like my #10 for travelling when I'm preparing food for lots of people--it works like a small chef knife--but for around town, it's too large in the pocket. If I could find a #9 with a walnut handle, well, that might be THE knife for me, but since that doesn't seem to be available, this #8 in walnut is perfect enough.If you know Opinels but have never tried one of these newer stainless models... well, the blade steel here is excellent, maybe even (dare I say it?) better than the old carbon.
