Ignore the complaining guy. He didn't bother to read the instructions, which make it clear that you're supposed to twist the clips after installing these. They don't fall off if you do it right. The guy who say he'll use "the string version" is apparently trying to use these on a lantern they're not designed for, since these tube mantles only come with the Insta-clip, you can't get them in a string tie version. Most people wouldn't have these problems.Lanterns which use these mantles put out more light than the traditional ones, because the mantles have more area. These aren't any more fragile than the traditional mantles. Although they're larger, they're also supported at both ends instead of just hanging. 18 of 20 people found the following review helpful  wild mantle design - outrageous pricing - amazon should stock, By OK - positives - the single mantle and new northstar electric start lanterns are like having a lamp around and work great - light output is aboiut 100w or more on high, and they can be turned way down low for a night light. The mantle leaves something to be desired. First time I "clipped" mine on everything was fine - ready to do the burnoff. Ash was fine after the burnoff. Time to light up. Light went fine until the tie clips got red hot and thats when problems started. There's something called the coefficient of thermal expansion. Take the heat into consideration and pow, the clip undoes itself, wrecknig the mantle at the same time. Ok - now its time to buy a new mantle. 4 buck mantle - 6.60 to ship it to me. 10.60 for a piece of ash. I think its cheaper in nevada. My parting advice - make sure you really tie those clips on good and tight and snug before you burn the mantle the first time. Next... I'd get these at Walmart instead of Amazon (that's not even Amazon, it's a third party seller!). Something is wrong when shipping costs more than the item. Unless you're buying a large quantity and tax saves offset shipping, you'll do better buying local.These are fantastic mantles for fantastic lights. I've never had a problem with mine, in operation. Massive amount of light output... I love it! I've never had the problem of the reviewer above, with the clips coming off, but I suppose I've always made sure mine were installed straight and proper before firing them up. Sounds like he wasn't as careful, because I've used my light for 15 years of camping 20+ weekends of the year, and have yet to have the issue. AFTER the trip, however, be extremely careful.
