I was looking for things that would be worth owning, decent quality, and affordable. This compass scores on all three axis. It has a very nice heft to it, is solidly constructed, very shiny (and will look cool when it tarnishes a bit) and actually works really well! They don't mention it in the description, but this pocket compass actually has the little mechanism that locks the needle in place when you shut the cover. That keeps the needle from bouncing around and maybe losing some accuracy. I own an antique boy scout compass very similar to this and this one compares very admirably to that one. I anticipate some hiker is going to be very happy if their name gets drawn for this one. The price is VERY reasonable, and it got here even before the estimated delivery date.
