I live in the tropics, and where I am there are no-see-ums (locally known as "Chitras"). They are tiny, almost invisible, biting insects of the same family as mosquitoes. Most people have a strong reaction to this little beasts if they are not accustomed to them (takes a few months). I won't use toxic chemical based insect repellents for health reasons. Yet I've had a challenging time finding an effective solution for the chitras. There is a lemon eucalyptus ( Repel Lemon Eucalyptus Insect Repellent - 4oz Spray) product which works very well, but I find it is too strong for my skin and gives me a rash, especially if I use it on my face or neck.I have also made up concentrated essential oil formulas with mixed results.
